Una bellissima edizione. Le concept mi hanno colpito per originalità e gusto estetico, che non è così scontato. La vista posteriore della Merceds GLC Coupé è semplice, ma funziona proprio come nelle bellissime automobili del decennio 50/60 che concentravano, giustamente, la personalità sul frontale.
Sguardo basso e vagamente retrò anche per la IAA, che si concede il pretesto della carrozzeria deformabile per abbassare il CX. Il design ha più gusto quando è motivato!
La Porsche Mission E mostra come la sportività non abbia bisogno di dettagli aggressivi e overdesigned… In fin dei conti la velocità “elettrica” sarà silenziosa e pulita, esattamente come la linea esterna di questa concept. Il gusto generale si sposta da un neo vintage ad un nuovo futurismo, con maggiore attenzione alle proporzioni e una cura per il dettaglio quasi esagerata. Fra tanta eccellenza spiace un po’ vedere i trattamenti ultra affilati delle concept Audi e Peugeot, una scelta che toglie sempre un po’ di anima al prodotto finale. Della Golf GTE Sport, la parte più interessante è il portellone posteriore incassato nella carrozzeria: una soluzione che omaggia l’originale di Giugiaro e potrebbe caratterizzare alla meraviglia una futura versione di serie.
Trend generali: siccome la forma è al centro del progetto, prevalgono i colori neutri come bianco e grigio/metallo. I fari si trasformano spesso in aree di luce uniformi, grazie a LED e OLED. I marchi giapponesi insistono su uno stile sovraccarico, ad esclusione di Mazda, sempre più ispirata da un gusto europeo.

A really rich edition. The concepts shock me for its uniqueness and good taste, never as obvious as it should be! The Mercedes GLC Coupé rear view looks simple and it’s ok exactly like the fabulous cars of fifties and sixties, more focused on the front end, where the personality of a car is located. The IAA features a low waistline/vintage look too, with an extravagant rear end that can extend to get a better Cx. Design is more consistent when follows function!
The Porsche Mission E show the world a sporty look without a muscle-car like coachwork and useless excesses: electric propulsion will be silent and clean, exactly like the style of this concept. General trend move from a kind of Neo Vintage to a New Futurism, with more attention to proportions and a care of detail, maybe too much.
Beneath all this excellence it’s a pity to find too sharp surfaces on Audi and Peugeot’s concepts, a choice that often weakens the soul of any product. The Golf GTE Sport looks extreme, too, but I really appreciate the “recessed” boot lid: that’s a solution that looks like an homage to the original one by Giugiaro, and could be an innovative style element for the next generation.
Overall trends: since shape is the focus of the project, a lot of concepts were white or grey/silver. Light design explores new LED and OLED technology, so often projectors move to homogeneous areas of light. Japanese brands still persist in an overdesigned style, but Mazda, more and more aiming at an European appearance.
